Diagnostics (UltiMate 3000 Series)
Disconnecting the Pump Block from Flow (HPG-3x00A/M Pumps)

If you want to run the general or detailed leak test for a HPG-3200A/M or HPG-3400A/M pump, you have to disconnect the unused pump block from the flow before running the test. To do so, disconnect the capillary and close the outlet with a blind nut.

 Tips

The Diagnostics Kit for UltiMate 3000 Pumps (Dionex P/N 6035.3000) includes everything that is needed to disconnect a pump block. When you are using a biocompatible pump, however, an additional Adapter Kit (Dionex-P/N 6037.3012) is required to prevent the sensitive titanium fittings from being damaged.

The image below illustrates this procedure for the HPG-3200A and HPG-3200M pumps.

To disconnect the pump block

HPG-3x00A pump

To disconnect the left pump block (so that you can test the right pump block, i.e., channels B and D for a HPG-3400A or channel B for a HPG-3200A)

  1. On the Tee insert (1), disconnect the capillary (2) from the left equilibration head (4) to the Tee insert.

  2. Close the Tee insert with a blind nut.

  3. Disconnect the capillary that is connected to the pump outlet (9) and close the outlet with a blind nut.

Reconnect the pump block when the test is complete.

To disconnect the right pump block (so that you can test the left pump block, i.e., channels A and C for a HPG-3400A or channel A for a HPG-3200A)

  1. On the Tee insert (1), disconnect the capillary (3) from the right equilibration head (5) to the Tee insert.

  2. Close the Tee insert with a blind nut.

  3. Disconnect the capillary that is connected to the pump outlet (9) and close the outlet with a blind nut.

Reconnect the pump block when the test is complete.

HPG-3x00M pump

To disconnect the left pump block (so that you can test the right pump block, i.e., channels B and D for a HPG-3400M or channel B for a HPG-3200M)

  1. On the outlet unit (7), disconnect the capillary (6) from the left equilibration head (4) to the outlet unit.

  2. Close the pump outlet with a blind nut.

  3. Disconnect the capillary that is connected to the pump outlet (9) and close the outlet with a blind nut.

Reconnect the pump block when the test is complete.

To disconnect the right pump block (so that you can test the left pump block, i.e., channels A and C for a HPG-3400M or channel A for a HPG-3200M)

  1. On the outlet unit, disconnect the capillary (8) from the right equilibration head (5) to the outlet unit.

  2. Close the pump outlet with a blind nut.

  3. Disconnect the capillary that is connected to the pump outlet (9) and close the outlet with a blind nut.

Reconnect the pump block when the test is complete.
